I was 6 years old, my dad got a job in Yemen, he went to work for construction of an oil platform there. Since this was his first job abroad after marriage, he didn't want to leave me and my mom in Hassan, he decided to move to Shimoga, a town near to my mom's native Mattur, so that she would be comfortable here, there are my uncles and aunts to look after us, (even though i was very capable of it my self, my dad thought it was not a job for 6year old kid and made sure I have help :) :D ). The ride was fun probably the most fun ever. ( have you ever rode a lorry? for 250 odd kilometers? half of it on the back as in few movies? shouting and waving at other vehicles passing by. and half of it on the front seat shooting vehicles with the 'two finger' gun, have you anybody? its every kids dream!!!!!)
By the time we reached Shimoga it was past 9 in the evening, exhausted from shooting soo many imaginary bullets I stepped down from the front door of the lorry and ran to the gate, I saw two guys sitting in front of the window, I went to them and asked what they were doing in front of my windows? They were Raagu and Deepu (Akhilesh and Pradeep respectively) I will always remember the years I spent playing 'I spy', spot, cricket and lots of other games with them :)
i totally understand the joy of a lorry ride! i have recently had a ride on a tiller- the kind they use to plough the land! and it was amazing! :):)
